A Little History About Pastor Rob

I am excited to serve as Pastor of Blessed Hope United Methodist Church, and of Memorial UMC in West Allis. Originally from Alabama (yes, you may hear a little southern twang from time to time as I preach), I have lived in Southeast Wisconsin since 2000. I am the proud father of my two daughters, Fiona and Fatima.

I am a second career pastor and graduated from the United Methodist Course of Study through MTSO (Methodist Theology School in Ohio), and attended classes in the Native American Course of Study.  My previous churches have included a multi-cultural urban congregation in downtown Milwaukee, and Native American Congregation.

Before entering pastoral ministry, I served as an International Partner with Habitat for Humanity and worked for extended periods in the Philippines, Armenia, Bolivia, and Paraguay. Additionally, I served as associate director of Habitat’s Global Village Work Camp program, and as associate director of Little Children of the World, a program helping street children in the Philippines.

My passions include international missions, community organizing, relationship building, and cross-cultural experiences. My sermons often include stories from my years building God’s community around the world.

I look forward to getting to know you as you visit us here at Blessed Hope, and of discovering where you might fit into the exciting work of community building that God has called us all to become engaged in. Hope to see you this Sunday!

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous (OA) offers hope and support to anyone who suffers from the disease of compulsive eating.  It is not a religious program, but a spiritual one.  OA offers physical, emotional, and spiritual healing from this three-fold disease through the practice of the Twelve Steps adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous, and by the loving acceptance and support of the fellowship.  There is a meeting at Blessed Hope UMC – West Allis every Saturday at 9:30 AM.  Call the OA office at 414-259-0640 or go to http://www.oa.org/ for more information.

Knitters and Crocheters

The K&C Group meets every Monday afternoon in the John Wesley Room from 1:00-2:00. We work on both on-going and short-term projects.
Our on-going project is our Prayer Shawl Ministry. The yarn and directions for this project are available in the church office.
Our short-term projects change with the seasons. We could be working on seafarer caps and scarves; dish clothes and scrubbers; baby blankets sweaters or caps; hats, mitten and scarves for children and adults or other ideas that are brought to the group.

Get Involved with Blessed Hope UMC

There are so many ways to get involved with Blessed Hope United Methodist Church of West Allis. While there are ecumenical groups like the Bell Choir, The Chancel Choir, the Finance Committee, UM Women, UM Men, etc. there are also many community oriented groups. Some examples are the Knitters and Crocheters, volunteers that help to keep our grounds landscaped and our church clean and decorated for the seasons.  We offer Summer School Bible Camp, an Overeaters Anonymous group, a photography group called the Shutterbug Group.  There are just so many ways to be a part of Blessed Hope United Methodist Church.

Many find the more involved you are in a group, volunteer work or other activities, the more fulfilled you feel. Each month we supply a monthly calendar with the times and dates those groups meet.  Please contact our office for more information.

UM Men

Blessed Hope United Methodist Church-West Allis does have a Men’s Club which is open to everyone.  Men who are new to the church are invited to join.  The men meet for breakfast and fellowship at 8 AM on the third Saturday of every month. When a child is baptized in the church, the Men’s Club makes a donation in the child’s name.  The donation is made to have a tree planted somewhere in the world to mark the occasion.  The men present the parents of the baptized child with a certificate documenting the actions.  The men also work on various projects around the church as the need arises.

UM Women

United Methodist Women is the official women’s organization of the worldwide United Methodist Church. It has the specific goal of supporting ministries for women, youth and children both in the U.S. and abroad. It is also a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ and to develop a creative supportive fellowship while expanding concepts of social action and knowledge about as well as support for global missions.

The Blessed Hope UMC Women’s unit meets on the second Tuesday of each month and concludes with lunch. There are no meetings during July or August.

Outreach

FOOD AND CLOTHING COLLECTIONS are planned periodically throughout the year to supply local food pantries and helping organizations. Members also participate in the CROP WALK to fight hunger each October.

COIN BASKET FOR MISSION PROJECTS: Members and friends place their loose change in a coin basket near the back of the sanctuary for projects ranging from the purchase of farm animals to seeds for planting, and blankets for those in need around the world.

CHRISTIANS WITH QUESTIONS
Who are we? We’re an ecumenical group of Christians who are not afraid to look at some of the questions theologians have been dealing with for the past 200 years. Inquisitive searching minds are always welcome! The format consists of a video presentation followed by small group discussion.
